Sonnet of the Son
Though in the form of God, he did not count
God-equality as something to crave
Choosing instead to empty himself out
Taking on, taking up the form of slave
Being born as man with heart-beat and breath
In this form, humbled himself at great cost
Embracing obedience unto death
Even shameful, painful, death on a cross
So God has highly exalted him now,
On him the name above all names bestowed
So That at the name of Jesus will bow
All knees in heaven, on earth, and below
“Jesus Christ is Lord!” ev’ry tongue will raise
To God the Father’s great glory and praise
