Passage: 1 Pe. 1:3-5, Ro. 8:12-17

  1. We receive the promised Holy Spirit. (Vs. 12-14)

    • Jesus promises us the Holy Spirit. (Jn. 14:15-21)

    • The Spirit helps us to put to death our flesh and leads and guides us in righteousness. (1 Pe. 1:14-16)

    • The Spirit bears fruit in our lives. (Gal. 5:22-23, 6:8)

    • The Spirit is a guarantee of our inheritance. (Eph. 1:13-14)

  2. We become Children of God and co-heirs with Christ. (Vs. 14-17)

    • We are adopted as children of God. (Vs 14 )

    • He transforms slaves into Children of God. (Heb. 9:11-15)

  3. We will share in His glory (Vs. 17)

    • Sharing in His glory means sharing in His suffering. (Rom. 8:17, Mt. 5:11-12)

    • Sharing in His glory speaks to the future. (Rom 8:18-19, 23, I Cor. 15:42-44)

Take Aways:

  1. What does it mean to live according to the flesh versus living according to the Spirit?

  2. How does obedience relate to being led by the Spirit? What does that practically look like in your life?

  3. What changes need to take place for the Spirit to be the controlling factor in your life?

  4. What are some practical ways to sow to the Spirit?

  5. How have you experienced the love of The Father in your life? How can that love overflow into the lives of those around you?

  6. Are you willing to suffer as a Christian? What does it look like to “suffer with Him”?

  7. What do you long for? Do you long to be before the King?
