  1. What is in a name?
    (Ex. 3:13–14; 33:17–23)

    • His name is Holy.

    • His name reveals His character.

    • His name is a gift to know Him personally.

    • His name is to be used with reverence and careful responsibility.

  2. What does this commandment mean?

    • We are not to use His name in empty ways.

    • We are to reverence His name. (Matt. 6:9)

  3. How do we reverence His name?

    • How we worship and pray.
      (Matt. 6:5–8, 14–15; James 4:3–5)

    • How we talk about Him and others. (James 4:9–10)

    • How we live our lives.
      (Matt. 5:43–48; 5:16; 2 Cor. 5:20)

  4. How seriously does God take His name? (Deut. 5:11)
    (Matt. 7:21–23; 12:33–37)

    • The Lord holds accountable.

    • God eternally judges.

    • Christ is our only hope.
