  1. It is not based on race. (V. 17)
    (Matt. 3:9; John 8:33, 39)

    • You are not better than other people.

    • You are not preferred over other people.

    • You are not more pure than other people.

  2. It is not based on religion. (V. 17b)
    (Luke 18:9–14)

    • Your prideful boasting. (Vv. 18–20)

    • Your hypocritical living. (Vv. 21–23)

    • You cause God’s name to be disrespected. (V. 24)

  3. It is not based on your religious rituals. (Vv. 25–28)

    • The purpose of the ritual. (V. 25a)

    • How it becomes invalid or valid.

      • Circumcision – obedience = uncircumcision

      • Uncircumcision + obedience = circumcision

    • God judges each man’s heart and life. (Vv. 26–27)
      (Matt. 21:28–32; Isa. 58:1–8; Matt. 15:1–9)

  4. It is based on your personal relationship with God. (Vv. 28–29)

    • Be honest about your sin.

    • Turn from sin to Jesus Christ.

    • Experience God’s work in your heart.

    • Live a life of obedience to God. 
      (Ez. 36:26–29; John 3:3; Titus 3:5)
